Cloud image optimization processes WordPress media through Cache Rocket’s API: lossless/lossy compression, WebP (and AVIF on Pro+), optional max-width resize, and edge delivery on img.cacherocket.com. Turn on responsive image CDN for on-demand sizes and srcset, bulk-optimize existing libraries, exclude individual attachments, restore originals from backup, scan custom folders, and compress PDFs—gated by your subscription quotas for opts, CDN bandwidth, and optimized image storage.

Modern formats without a separate pipeline
You should not need a custom build step to ship WebP or AVIF. When cloud image optimization is enabled, new uploads are queued for processing. When a job finishes, the plugin rewrites front-end markup to the optimized CDN URL on img.cacherocket.com.
Quality, max width on upload, and format preference live under Media in the WordPress plugin. Quotas and feature flags sync from your Cache Rocket subscription; exhausted monthly opts, CDN bandwidth, or image storage hard-stop new work so usage stays predictable.
Responsive image CDN
Enable responsive image CDN to serve adaptive sizes through img.cacherocket.com—visitors get appropriately sized files instead of a single oversized original. This uses the same image edge as Next.js on-demand transforms, with WordPress paths under img.cacherocket.com.
CDN bandwidth and optimized image storage (OVH-backed) are metered separately from monthly optimization job counts. Storage covers retained optimized variants and optional original backups.
Library tools competitors expect
Bulk optimize walks unoptimized attachments with pause/resume progress in wp-admin. Exclude any attachment from the Media Library list or attachment details so logos, already-optimized assets, or legal files stay untouched. On plans that include backup, restore returns the original file from cloud storage.
Higher tiers unlock optimize custom folders (paths outside the usual uploads tree) and PDF compression. Recent optimization jobs appear on the Media page so you can see what queued, finished, or failed.

- Does it re-process my entire media library?
- New uploads optimize when the feature is on. Existing files are optimized when you run bulk optimize, optimize a single attachment, scan a directory, or use WP-CLI—not automatically overnight.
- What is the difference between img.cacherocket.com and assets.cacherocket.com?
- Optimized WordPress (and Next.js) images are delivered from img.cacherocket.com. Critical CSS and optional Next.js /_next/static use assets.cacherocket.com. Both are part of Cache Rocket’s managed edge.
- What does image storage measure?
- Optimized image storage (GB) is the retained size of optimized variants and backups in Cache Rocket object storage. It is separate from monthly optimization job counts and CDN bandwidth.
- What is the difference between WebP and AVIF?
- Both are modern image formats. WebP is available on plans with image optimization. AVIF often compresses further and is available on Pro and Business when preferred.
- Can I exclude a single image?
- Yes. Use Exclude on the Media Library list or the attachment details checkbox. Excluded items are skipped by CDN rewriting and optimization queues until you include them again.
